The Child Care Health Consultant (CCHC), a Registered Nurse makes site visits to targeted facilities in both Lenoir and Greene Counties year round prioritizing those with one and two-star licenses, histories of poor compliance with health/safety standards, and/or high percentages of subsidized children. The CCHC: -
facilitates health and safety compliance consistent with Division of Child Development (DCD) regulations -
establishes protocols and ensures collective health policies -
conducts dental screening -
promotes medical homes, including well-child visits and immunizations -
promotes that children with special needs are identified and obtain IFSPs/IEPs -
reviews illness and injury logs, with special attention to child care health trends -
provides health education and consultation for staff, parents, and children, including mental health and safety -
documents procedures for situations and emergencies Issues identified by the CCHC are followed-up with contacts to the child's family and healthcare provider with parents' consent. To promote higher quality care, the CCHC coordinates service delivery with Lenoir/Greene Child Care Resource & Referral and gives special focus to health compliance issues that might impede a provider's progress in achieving a higher star license.
